What we're about
Welcome to Socially Awkward, Nerdy, Dorky, Black Women!
Our mission is to cultivate real friendships and form a safe place where Black women can be themselves, have fun, and feel at ease. If you've ever been told, “you're too black to be nerdy or vice versa, or “you don't talk black,” (and the list goes on...) then this is probably the group for you! Perhaps you're an introvert looking to get out and have fun with like-minded folks, or just looking for a chill community here in NYC. We are an inclusive group of women simply out to have fun, try new things, and enjoy some judgement-free company. We explore the city and all its surroundings with museum visits, outdoor activities, drinks and dining, entertainment, and much more. The sky is the limit; feel free to send us your ideas!
To foster an intimate and active community, our group remains limited to 50 members. All new membership requests will be wait-listed and subject to approval by the organizing team. Our waitlist continues to grow, so approvals do take time; we apologize for the wait and are grateful for your interest! Please don’t hesitate to reach out to us at any time with questions or to check in.
We hate to be sticklers, but there are just a few things we ask of our members in the spirit of maintaining an active, respectful and cooperative community:
Please be active! To keep our community thriving, we ask that you remain an active participant. If things come up, let us know! Members who are inactive for more than three months without notice will be subject to removal, so that we may make room for those on the waitlist.
RSVP etiquette: Please RSVP to a meetup only if you are certain to attend. If your plans change, please notify your host and update your RSVP accordingly. Last-minute cancellations and no-shows are subject to removal from the group.
Group dining: Please bring cash when joining us for dining meetups. To make things easy for our large parties, we make reservations in advance and pay cash to keep our tab simple and avoid card-splitting limits.
Thank you for your cooperation.
Show Some Love!
Lastly, our semi-annual Meetup subscription is funded exclusively by member contributions. We do not ask for dues, so if you are having fun and enjoying our company, please feel free to chip in by clicking the link on our home page. Any amount truly does help, and all contributions and subscription payments are recorded on our ‘money’ page, which is always accessible to group members.
Thanks so much, and I hope you'll join us!
