Monthly Meeting

The primary activity of each meeting will be the review of an essay written by Ayn Rand applying Objectivist principles to aspects of modern culture.  Our method is to "chew" a particular essay -- to review, to discuss, to increase the depth of our understanding of the principles and observations it contains.

We are engaged in exploring a series of essays on the connection between knowledge, values, and emotions, including the role played by romantic art in the development and sustaining of rational values.

The subject essays in this series are:

Art and Moral Treason (Ayn Rand, 1965)

The Psycho-Epistemology of Art (Ayn Rand, 1965)

Philosophy and Sense of Life (Ayn Rand, 1966)

Art and Sense of Life (Ayn Rand, 1966)

Art and Cognition (Ayn Rand, 1971)

All (except the last) are reprinted in The Romantic Manifesto.

The meetings of the second quarter (Apr, May, Jun) will be spent examining the question "What is Art?", as discussed in the essay Art and Cognition.

I sincerely apologize for the no show tonight. I had a very urgent piece of business that came up at the end of the day and kept me at work until now. So sorry! Hope to make the next one.
