Monthly Meeting

  • Extra Billy's Smokehouse

1110 Alverser Drive, Midlothian, VA (map)

    37.507095 -77.618500

  • Meetings are held at Extra Billy's Smokehouse at 1110 Alverser Dr, Midlothian VA 23113

The primary activity of each meeting will be the review of some written work applying Objectivist principles to aspects of modern culture. Our method is to "chew" a particular essay -- to review, to discuss, to increase the depth of our understanding of the principles and observations it contains.

While our topics are selected to interest those who are familiar with Objectivism, anyone interested in the philosophy is welcome, as are their questions. Suggestions are always welcome for other aspects or applications of Objectivism to be discussed in future meetings.

    • The topic for the election season 2016 is politics, specifically exercises in the application of Objectivist philosophy to contemporary political issues.
    • Each participant should write out a brief analysis, stating the principles involved and possible transition issues from current policies to ones consistent with those principles. The focus of analysis should be on principles, not just policies.
    • High-level policy issues:

    > Foreign policy - hostile countries

    > Foreign policy - trading partners

    > Foreign policy - the basis for alliances

    > Defense policy - appropriate funding

    > Defense posture - manpower vs. technology

Topics for later meetings have yet to be decided - input is welcome.
