Living With the Sun - Arizona Style - Professional Meet-Up

Arizona Corporation Commissioner Susan Bitter Smith will speak on the issues and process before Arizona regarding the evolving growth of solar in Arizona's energy evolution and take questions about the ACC and its role in the renewable energy market in Arizona.

Commissioner Bitter Smith commenced her 4 year term on the Arizona Corporation Commission in January 2013. A native of Arizona, she has served as a member of the Scottsdale City Council, and Vice-Mayor; has served as Board Member and President of the Central Arizona Water Conservation District Board of Directors; and was recently honored, with the Central Arizona Water Conservation District (CAWCD), by the Arizona Capitol Times as one of the Public Policy Government Leaders of the Year.

Last year, Arizona was in the top 2 or 3 states in the amount of solar installed. At the same time, Arizona solar businesses are experiencing one of their most difficult periods in recent years and are facing an uncertain future.

Recently Arizona utilities revisited their business policies and practices and submitted requests for changes to the ACC. Solar industry and business have opposition to the proposed changes, with concerns regarding the adverse consequences to solar in Arizona, from potential decimation of a growing solar industry and negative impact on jobs to the adverse impact it will have on Arizona citizens directly going solar.

With all the talk between different groups causing some confusion with the state of the solar industry in Arizona, Commissioner Bitter Smith has graciously accepted the invitation to speak to the Arizona solar industry community on these and other issues and opportunities.

This SPECIFIC Arizona Solar Center Meet-Up Session is geared towards solar equipment professionals and businesses - providers and installers of photovoltaic (PV) and solar hot water (SHW) equipment and services. The intent of this AzSC Meet-Up Session, therefore, is to provide an opportunity for individuals in the solar industry to share information and discuss issues that are significantly impacting solar in Arizona.

The Meet-Up session will be 15 August 2013 - 7-8:30 p.m. at the City of Scottsdale Granite Reef Senior Center just north of the intersection of Granite Reef Road and McDowell Rd. in south Scottsdale.

While the focus of the session will be on the solar professional and business community, the session is open for anyone to attend.

The Arizona Solar Center Meet-Up sessions are an activity of the Arizona Solar Center, Inc. (; with support from the Arizona Solar Energy Association (State Chapter of ASES) and AriSEIA (State Chapter of SEIA). The Living With the Sun Programs are presented under the auspices of the City of Scottsdale Green Building Program.
