Dragon Boat Racing

What is dragon boat racing? Dragon boat racing is a 42 foot canoe with a dragon head and tail. It has 10 benches, a drummer seat and requires 20 paddlers and a drummer to work together in harmony to acheive a common goal.

The DC Dragon Boat Club invites you to come out and experience paddling first hand. What a way to spend a beautiful morning, paddling on the Washington Channel and Potomac River.

What to expect: You will warm up with the club and other beginning paddlers. We will then get on the water for about an hour and free paddle, teach you the stroke technique, and the mechanics of paddling in a race. You can find more information about the sport and what to expect on our website at

What to bring: Bring water and dress appropriately for the water and the weather. Should the weather be cold it's best to wear layers of non-cotton clothing.

Location: Gangplank Marina (600 Water St., SW)

Time: 8:30 AM - 10 AM

Metro: Waterfront (Green line)

Cost: $0

Seats Available: 40

See you on the water!

Hoped you all liked the paddling despite the rain (after all, it is a water sport)! If you did, you might also be interested in knowing that the club helps train the Out-of-Sight Dragons, consisting of blind and visually-impaired paddlers. Let them know if you want to be a sighted volunteer, and someone will connect you to the right people!

You may want to get brunch afterward too. Isn't the fish market nearby?

    October 2, 2013

Yes. The fish market is just down the street and there are restaurants in the area too that we can go.
