Meet and Greet

Good people, good conversation, good food, and rental shoes. We're a group of varied tastes so a simple gathering for dinner and bowling offers a nice opportunity for all the lurkers to de-lurk,  get to know us and allow us to get to know them.

Dinner at 7 at Minato Sushi in downtown Baltimore, followed by a 15 minute exodus to AMF Woodlawn (6410 Security Boulevard, Baltimore, MD 21207) to knock down pins for those interested. If interested in/willing to carpool please mention so in the comments below. Look forward to seeing new and old faces!

I enjoyed it! At first it was a little scary that everyone was older than me, but that went away quickly as everyone was pretty friendly and easy to talk to. I didn't stay for bowling, so no comment on that.

It was great seeing all the new faces and getting to know everyone.

Minato was good. There were lots of new people. Bowling was fun, even though I sucked.

Ella, carpooling to the lanes seemed to be the plan. I'm having some work done on my car so you or anyone else are welcome to help me make the most out of the rental I'm driving.

I plan on getting to the restaurant by bus, so I'm probably going to need a carpool to get to the bowling lanes. I want to get to know you guys at the restaurant first to be safe, so right now I'd rather just find out if anyone's able to carpool than make a decision. I'm also going to have someone with me and I'd prefer we didn't get separated. Thanks <3

The reservations are under my name, Rudell. I'll ask one the organizers if they can send out my # so people can call/text when they arrive. (I'd prefer not to just post it on the group site since its not private). Hmm..I'll see what I can do in terms of a visual aid (beside Daryl's Indian Jones hat) so you guys can locate the group if we're seated before you arrive. Marcella, I don't expect us to be at the restaurant past 930 so I would say meet us at AMF b/w 9:30-10:00ish. Call us to be sure.

Too late to bring an extra along, huh?

    May 6, 2011

  • Phil M.

So, are the reservations under the name "Genshiken" or another name?

    May 6, 2011

  • Marcella K.

I have a friend who might be interested in going to the restaurant though, so I taken the last spot for him.

    May 5, 2011

  • Rudie

Yeah, I made the reservation at the beginning of the week when I noticed the growing numbers, hence the new attendee limit. Enjoy the party!

    May 4, 2011

  • Alexander M.

Not going, the change in time screwed me over as a friend is having a bday party the same day and same time.

If so many people are going, you may want to go ahead and make a reservation with Minatos, so you can be sure that everyone can at least sit near each other.

    May 4, 2011

  • Rudie

Ella, your +1 should already accounted for since you have it in the RSVP, so you should be fine bringing them.

I can get to this place on my own, and pull off another one of my infamous arrivals an hour early.

    April 27, 2011

  • Rudie

I can fit 3 other people comfortably in my car. Holla if you wanna ride with me. Consider the following: cat fur is always floating in my car (if you're allergic), and I play my music loudly when I get sleepy. ^_^

Isn't that what you said earlier?? ^^;; I too think we should eat there before bowling.

    April 26, 2011

  • Alexander M.

Couldn't we do dinner at Minatos, then car pool to AMF Lanes in Woodlawn?

    April 26, 2011

  • Rudie

I forgot about Eastpoint. I honestly have no clue about reserving lanes. I haven't gone bowling during the daylight hours since I was like 9. It probably depends on time and location. Friends and I didn't make reservations for late night bowling in my past experiences.

Don't go to the bowling alley at patterson park. It's small and it's always active. I know only of the one at eastpoint mall. Wouldn't we have to reserve a bowling alley in advance first?

    April 26, 2011

  • Rudie

I know Brian is against sushi, but there's more than just sushi on the menu (http://www.minatosushibar.com/). If everyone else is game I like the idea of going to Minato. Of course I'm a bit biased b/c I have a bit of a sushi craving. The bowling thing may be a bit more involved since the alleys in Baltimore are mostly outside the inner city (the closest may be Patterson Park?). I think both Security and Dundalk have AMF lanes.

    April 26, 2011

  • Alexander M.

Minatos is always a good choice for an Asian place in Baltimore.

    April 26, 2011

  • Thomas

I think more people feel that way than dont. That and we did just go there recently anyway. Let's just stick to a meal then bowling. I'd suggest a restaurant but I dont know anything about Baltimore.

I'm game for wherever the majority wanna go. I can see cons and pros for D & B, but don't think me pointing them out will inspire forward motion. I also suck at useful suggestions, ha ha.

Wherever we decide to go, I think we should try to make it a place public transportation accessible from Baltimore.

Thanks for your input, Phil. I think the Central Library might be a good place. The only issue may be parking. I've never hosted an event at a library before, so is there a fee for booking a room? And I assume we also need to indicate equipment we'd like to use (projector/tv/vcr/dvd player)? I just arbitrarily picked a date, so we can change that if there's a better one you guys have in mind.

Oh! And the Maryland Film Festival is that same weekend, just to let you know. Maybe we could work around that somehow. They usually serve food there. Bison burgers!
