Re: [anime-569] Katsucon 2010

Magfest---> Good small sized video game con. Ignoring the small dealers room, i really think that con is neat

Katsucon this is being held at the gaylord hotel. It's technically located at Oxon Hill, MD. Right off the national harbor. It's sort of close to crystal city, but not like where last years con was.

I'm more of an hippie/anime fan, then a sci-fi/anime fan. So, I guess go to the con you'll like more. Katsucon, like I said isn't a horrible con, it's just the locations haven't been all that great. Last year, was beyond too crowded. So, in that sense I'm glad they moved. And if you go with a nice group of people then it's more fun (and cheaper, can't beat that!). Just my two cents.

Um, cost? Well, the gaylord is pretty pricey. It's $169 per night, not including the $15 per day resort fee and the $19 per day parking fee. The Residence Inn is starting roughly at $149 I think. I know a 2 BR suite is like $279 per night... and the Hampton Inn, I've seen for as low as $123 per night. Oh, and I believe both of those hotels have a $10 per night parking fee.

Being a drunk ninja... good times I must say. I can't wait. :)

I thought Katsu was going to be moved to the Gaylord hotel north of the Bridge in the Washington Harbor area ... is it still going to be in the Crystal City area?

I'll post a meet up event for Katsu when I get a chance. I may not be making it down there (I didn't really like that Con) but I'll be happy to post it as an event here.

Yeah, booking hotels really started a few months ago... lol. But I normally wait a couple months or less closer to the con. So I know if i can probably go and stuff. The main con hotel isn't booking as fast because of the LAME non-refundable 1 night deposit fee. The other nearby hotels haven't sold out, but the double occupancy rooms are gone... mainly because they were booked a couple months ago. Of what I saw only king rooms are left... but at least they are cheaper. Plus the Residence Inn has a full kitchen. Of what I've read, like there are hardly, if any food places around.
I also skipped Anime USA so I could afford Katsucon better. It's a good con over all. The times it's been bad for me... the locate made it suck. Not the people inside it.

I do want to go. Even though I haven't really heard to many positive things about it, I still want to go since I missed anime USA. Is now when I/we should be looking into hotels and stuff?I hope everyone had a great holiday!

Anyone attending Katsucon? I'm pretty sure I'm going, and hopefully staying in the Residence Inn across the street. I might need some roommates over the age of 21 and stuff if my friends bail out on me. I am a drinker, be aware. :)
If anything, I hope this stirs up some conversation on our quiet group.
