  • Taking Control of Database Changes - Peter Matseykanets [Columbia]

This month's meeting will be hosted by Unleashed Technologies (https://www.unleashed-technologies.com/) in Columbia! Food and drink will be provided, so please RSVP so we have an accurate headcount. Tonight's Presentation Summary: Most of us are familiar with the process and various tools for version control of our application code. But what about the database that the code interacts with? Often the changes needed to bring new functionality to the application are elevated into the QA or production environment manually by a series of scripts with no easy recourse if a misstep occurs. It doesn't have to be that way. Database & Schema migration tools allow a user to push updates in an automated and testable way. When combined with virtual or container technology the team finds that it's possible to bring up a database, seed it with data, run tests against it, and then dispose of it within a matter of minutes. Peter Matseykanets is a backend development team lead at LMO Advertising with extensive experience in multiple RDBMS, from open source like MySql to corporate solutions like Oracle. An adherent of automated database migration Peter has become adept at using the technique to drive DevOps at LMO to a new level, allowing database changes to be tested and deployed with a great deal of confidence. He'll be sharing the principles and an example of performing Database & Schema Migrations. Evening Schedule: 6:30 PM - Socializing and food (provided by Unleashed Technologies) 7:00 PM - Presentation starts 8:00 PM - Presentation ends, Q&A, hang around and chat 8:30 PM - Time to close up and leave Getting to Unleashed Technologies Unleashed Technologies is located at 8825 Stanford Blvd in Columbia (near Wegmans).
