PHP Developer Seeking Postion

From: Travis B.
Sent on: Wednesday, October 2, 2013 12:49 PM
Short Version:

A LAMP developer with 9 years experience looking for a job. Resume attached, along with a "cover letter" type message. Ideal situation is Senior Dev at a company with ~25 people. SaaS. In Baltimore City.

Long Version:

Hello Baltimore PHP,

My name is Travis Black and I would like to be considered for a Senior Developer position in Baltimore. I am currently employed as a Senior Software Engineer and have been working with internet technology for almost 9 years. Most of my time has been spent in LAMP, but I like to take a best tool for the job approach, so sometimes LAMP just isn't the stack for me. My main strength is in PHP5 and I am an expert with the Symfony 1.4 framework. I am comfortable in CoffeeScript/JS, Ruby, Python and dozens of libraries, frameworks, and supporting technologies for those languages.

I understand that it can be boring/tedious to read a resume (which I have attached). Honestly, a long list of technologies with which I have worked, projects I've completed, and skills I possess isn't that exciting of a read for me either. While I am sure my resume will give you an in depth look at my technical prowess, I hope to give you a more personal perspective here.

First I would like to offer a little of who I am as a person. I love start-up culture. I get excited about programming, but also about football, hiking, reading, a hot coffee and a cold beer. I live in Baltimore's Mount Vernon neighborhood -- which I love, and I did do the pre-requisite watching of The Wire before I moved here.

My main goal, besides a competitive salary, is to be a member of a cool team and a fun culture. I believe that when I am spending 45 hours a week at work, it goes a lot easier if I like my coworkers and the office space. Also, I would like to end my daily commute to DC. Ideally, I could meet these cultural goals while solving challenging technical problems and producing deliverables that make me proud and my clients happy.

I am confident that I would be a great fit on your technology team, and I hope after reading this you feel the same. I am available to chat any time via call, text, tweet, gchat or numbers stations, and look forward to hearing from you soon.

Best Wishes,

Travis Black
