What we’re about

Dear Friends,
I’m writing to let you know that after 12 years of successful jamming, I am ending this NYC Bluegrass Slow jam as we know it, and turning it into a New Old Time Slow Jam, which will take place on the 2nd and 4th Monday of every month at Paddy Reilly’s.   Same time, same place, different kind of jam.  I welcome you all to join me if you’re interested in this music.  Here’s the new site for more info about it:  https://www.meetup.com/old-time-slow-jam-nyc/

The last NYC Bluegrass Slow Jam will be held on Monday, March 28th 2022 at 7:00 pm.  Come and celebrate our community and our 12 years of successful music making and friendship.  Bring some finger food to share – sweet or savory -- your instrument and yourselves.  Let’s bring this jam to a close with a celebration of our accomplishments over the years.

This was a hard decision for me to make.  It’s been a long, successful ride.  We’ve had so many fun times making  music together.  We have forged important friendships and have developed a flourishing community.  But what is also true is that since the development of the NYC Bluegrass Slow Jam in 2008, there are now many spaces to engage in BG jamming across NYC:  Paddy’s every Sunday at 5:00 pm (Tony’s Jam), Paddy’s every first and third Monday at 7:30 (Craig’s Jam), Liz and Ron’s jams in upper Manhattan  https://www.meetup.com/bluegrassjams/.  And other jams, too. Check this resource http://jimsrootsandblues.com/ for other jamming opportunities across the city.

I want to take this opportunity to thank all of the leaders over the years who made this jam possible:  Bill Giles - our founding jam leader, Kimball Mandrake, Phyllis Elkind, Dave Comins, AJ and the late great Don Friedman.  And of course, I’m always thankful to Steve Duggan for continuing to make Paddy’s a space for creating community music.  I’m also thankful to all of you, who participated in jams and showcases with such joy and commitment. This isn’t goodbye.  Rather, it’s change.  I do hope you’ll pop into the Old Time Jam on the second and fourth Monday of every month.
Love to you all!
