Re: [electronicmusic-152] Where can I get newbie help with Logic Express?

Chad, I also wanted to point you to Logic Pro Help [http://logicprohelp.com/]. Plenty of friendly and knowledgeable users on that forum.

Also, I recommend the books posted by Glen. I currently go to school for music/audio production and those were the books that we used for our Logic/MIDI classes. They are packed full of information but they're easy to read. Meaning, they're not some manual that only spits out technical information and numbers and all that (i.e. it's not a dry read). And, if it's of any interest to you, you can take the Apple Logic Pro Training certification tests after reading each book (for a fee of course).

Hey Chad,

I recently had the same issue come up...the docs on the disc are 'ok' if you don't mind sifting through pdf docs while you use the app (how is that logical?)

My journey so far has resulted in this:

http://www.youtube.com/profile_videos?user=SFLogicNinja (some okay free tutorials by a guy who seems knowledgeable and friendly enough)

Eventually I think I'll have to get this:

http://www.amazon.com/Apple-Pro-Training-Beyond-Basics/dp/0321502884/ref=pd_sim_b_4
or
http://www.amazon.com/Apple-Pro-Training-Logic-Express/dp/0321502922/ref=pd_sim_b_1

Hi,

I just bought Logic Express for my MacBook pro, because GarageBand
sucked, and I wanted something that would perform better and be less
buggy.  I want to start recording some guitar with an M-Audio USB
device - nothing fancy, and I really don't care about quality, I just
want to get the music out of my guitar onto my computer.

Unfortunately, I greatly underestimated the complexity of Logic, and
my ability to make it do what I want.  In several hours of trying,
I've only managed to get a few faint noises of my guitar and mic
recorded, and I can't even reproduce that.  There is an "Audio MIDI
Setup" app in OSX, and a cryptic "Environment" panel in Logic, but I
cannot figure out what I need to do with them.  I found this site
(http://www.logic-cafe.com), but that's still not making it simple
enough for me...

QUESTION:
What would be the best support group/forum/tutorials for learning, in
excruciating beginners detail, how to make the instrument cable of my
guitar result in recorded sound in Logic, via my M-Audio USB device?

Sorry if this isn't the right forum for this or if you guys aren't
into commercial software, I just joined.

Thanks,
-- Chad
