Dear BArCMuTers -

This is to let you know about 4 great upcoming events, starting from tonight.

CCRMA will add special digi-éclat to the Vibration Hackers computer music night & Touch the Gear event in the 12th Outsound New Music Summit (items [2] & [3] below), with more ultra-hackery from CNMAT & NoiseBridge in these events as well.

[1] MSP / piano w Aaron Bennett's Electro-Magnetic Trans-Personal Orchestra @ The Uptown, Oakland (10:30pm, tonight Tue 09 Jul) + bran(…)pos (9pm) + Tastyville (9:45pm)

— Electro-Magnetic Trans-Personal Orchestra (Set 3, 10:30pm)

Aaron Bennett's E.M.T.P.O. ensemble use the electro-magnetic field of their collective mind, tuned and amplified by means of unique "breathing chart" compositions in a special graphic notation which Aaron has designed for large improvising ensembles to focus and unleash aural energies. The resulting sound is like nothing else and has amazed audiences in a string of orgone-accelerating Bay Area performances over the last year.

Line-up: Aaron Bennett - sax, leader & compositions | Rob Ewing - trombone | Jeff Hobbs - violin | Darren Johnston – trumpet | Joe Lasqo - MSP (laptop), synth, & piano | Bob Marsh - accordion & spiritual guidance counselor | Lisa Mezzacappa - bass |

— bran(…)pos (Set 1, 9pm)

Experimental vocal tract procedures & processing, “face music”, and larger than life meta-presence through extreme video manipulation with the Bay Area's leading visagiste.

— Tastyville (Set 2, 9:45pm)

Cansofis Foote (musique) and Charlie St. Claire (vocal interventions and interpretative dance) prove there are art forms that cannot be intended.

[3] MSP / piano w saxist Ritwik Banerji (ঋত্বিক ব্যানার্জী) + musicbots Maxine & Maxxareddu in Outsound New Music Summit's "Vibration Hackers" night @ CMC, SF (8-11pm, Thu 25 Jul)

An amazing evening of computer music hackery that I've had the honor of curating for this year's Outsound, w special guests from CNMAT & CCRMA

We’re going to have everything:

— Wild Twitter-driven son et lumière#MAX  (Caitlin Denny, Nicole Ginelli, Dmitri Svistula (Димитрий Свистула))

— AI vs. AI musicbots & music grammars → Maxine & Maxxareddu, w keepers Ritwik Banerji (ঋত্বিক ব্যানার্জী) / Joe Lasqo

— Exquisitely refined and spatialized depictions of madness and Russian constructivist aesthetic theories → Fernando López-Lezcano & Ilya Rostovtsev (Илья Ростовцев)

[4] Piano w saxist Phillip Greenlief & Orchesperry in Braxton's Ghost Trance Music piece "Composition 255" @ Berkeley Arts Festival (9pm, Sun 04 Aug) + Uncle Braxton (Myles Boisen + John Shiurba)

— Orchesperry under the baton of Phillip Greenlief (Set 2, 9pm)

Experience the uniquely Braxtonian mind-meld between the sophisticated, abstract structures of post-WW2 classical music and the emotional immediacy and daredevil excitement of the New Jazz in a "second species" piece from Braxton's monumental Ghost Trance Music Series.

Line-up: Joel Bremson – bass | Keith Cary – cello | Luis Albert Clifford Childers – trombone, euphonium, harmonica | Dax Compise – percussion | Tara Flandreau – violin | Michael Frost – viola | Phillip Greenlief – leader, alto sax | Joe Lasqo – piano | Christina Maradik-Symkowick – viola | Tim Onorato – bass | Tony Passarell – tenor sax | Amy Reed – guitar | special guest: Suzanne Thorpe - flute, processing, laptop |

— Uncle Braxton w Myles Boisen & John Shiurba (Set 1, 8pm)

Two modernist masters of guitar++ give Braxton's ideas a bloody run for their money.

Hope to see you at these great shows!
