Re: [bassethound-32] Basset Bash Moving to August

Hi Joy,

Hopefully what is going on with your Bassett is not serious.

I will share with you that our otherwise healthy 7-year-old Basset was displaying periods of panting and pacing with anxiety and she ended up being diagnosed with pericardial tamponade, which is med-speak for fluidic in the sac surrounding the heart. She was diagnosed by a vet at an emergency veterinary hospital that I had taken her to at night because her behavior was really concerning me. This was after our regular vet was unable to determine what was going on with her.

Hopefully, your Basset has something going on that is much more benign, but because symptoms were so similar I thought I would share our experience.

Good luck,
Carrie

Joy,

You could consult a trainer. There may have been a non-obvious change that is affecting her behavior and causing stress which a trainer may be able to determine. Jeff Tinsley with Sound Animals has been training for nearly 2 decades in the Seattle and surrounding area. You should be able to contact him through SoundAnimals.com. Shoot him an email and see in you could do a phone consultation to start with.

Good luck.

Hi, all –

I’m looking for a little advice.  Our 13-year-old sweet basset girl is going through regular periods of pacing and panting and extreme neediness, at which times it’s almost impossible to console her.  She doesn’t seem to be in any pain and her blood chemistry tests come back like that of a three-year-old.  Her sight has gradually deteriorated and now I believe she is completely blind.   But she manages like the trooper she is.  We work from home whenever possible and stay home with her and take her where we can.  But this seems to be getting worse.  I’m working with the vet and she is taking Prozac at night which has helped her and the rest of the family get some sleep.  I just started her on Dinovite and have been giving her probiotics, fish oil, and milk thistle for some time.  Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Joy

I have had lots of messages from people wanting to know about the Basset Bash. The city of Woodinville is moving the parade and the Bash to August. Here is a link to the newpaper article. I will post the Basset Bash info soon along with the flier. So the Bash is still happening just moving to warmer weather!
