The South Bay has not had public access to the bay waters since the 70's. This brand new boat ramp is going to change all that. The official opening ceremony will be June 5, 2010 from 11 AM to 2 PM with booths and speeches (however, our paddle will start at 1 PM). It might be kind of fun to be part of this historic event.
For the official website of the Alviso Marina County Park, Google "alviso marina boat ramp". I have upload to the File area the official invitation from the Santa Clara County Supervisor Dave Cortese. The park's phone number is[masked].
We will begin the paddle at 1 PM to take advantage of the tide. It's about 4 miles from the ramp to the bay, so you will be paddling in a natural slough environment that few people have experienced. High tide is 8 AM, low tide 2:30 PM. Padding out at 1 PM, we will be going with the tide, and coming back around 2:30-ish we will be with the tide as well (and with the wind).
The last 1/2 of this site has excellent large pictures of the Alviso Slough Trail (about 10 pictures), which follows Alviso Slough.
This site describes the Alviso Slough Trail and the history of Alviso:
There are no kayak rentals at the site. You need to bring your own kayak.
