Our film group is going to have its very own matinee screening at the Aquarius! If all goes well this will become a regular event where we can show and watch the films that we want to see, on the big screen!
This is an incredibly exciting opportunity for the group, but it will also need your support to be successful :)
Whether you're a new member or have been out to many of our events, please do join us for this get-together / matinee screening!
Here's the general plan:
From 10am - 10.30am we'll have a Meet & Greet at the Aquarius Theater ... meet everyone, chat and get your preferred seat.
We'll start the film around 10.30.
Afterwards, we will head out for lunch to chat more and discuss the film
The lunch reservation list is closed as we need to give the final numbers to the restaurant. However, there should be enough space for walk-in's, and of course you can still RSVP for the event.
Final notes from Yuliana regarding the lunch:
We'll have 6-7 tables with 10 persons per table. The restaurant will separate the checks out per table and include gratuities/tax. We'll split evenly for each table.
Please remember to bring CA$H to cover your part of the tab.
Depending on how hungry we are the bills should be around $20-$30 incl. gratuity/tax.
Yuliana, our culinary expert, is organizing the lunch and will update the specifics soon. (Yuliana --> blushed!! Tall order to fill...)
So here is our lunch plan, we will go to for dim sum at Ming's and sit in round tables discussing the film while drinking tea in small cups just like the ancient Chinese literati used to do :P :

Palo Alto, CA 94303
Now, what film are we going to watch?? :) ... I have debated for some time (and discussed with some of you) whether to make this a surprise screening or not, and I have decided to let everyone decide for themselves ... so, here is the hint: the film we are going to watch was the german nominee for the Golden Globes as best foreign language film in 2000 ...
Now you can look it up if you want to, or be (hopefully pleasantly) surprised. For those wondering about the category/genre, it is a drama/romance.
We will have this event at the Aquarius theater in Palo Alto! Many thanks go to the folks at Landmark Theaters who are very supportive. To cover the rent for the movie theater and the screening fee for the film we are asking for a contribution of $10 (this is different from our regular meetups). When you RSVP 'Yes' for the event (which you will hopefully do :) ) you will be asked to pay your contribution via PayPal.
When you RSVP, please let us know by answering the questions if you want to join the group for breakfast, lunch or both so we can make reservations. The meetup will be updated closer to the event with the specifics!
If this first event is successful we are planning to make this a regular (monthly?) event where we show foreign and independent films from the last roughly 25 years that have either never been run in the US or have been very much underrated. And since this is YOUR group and show we are looking for film suggestions!!
One more thing: I will need the help of a few volunteers with the organization of the event, so I'll send out a call for volunteers soon via separate email. If you have a little time to spare, please consider helping out with this special event and drop me a line if you are willing to help out with the organization.
Please do let me know if you have any questions or if I have missed anything, check back for updates to the event, and most importantly, please sign up for it and help spread the word amongst your film crazy friends about this wonderful opportunity!!
I hope to see all of you at the Aquarius at our very first Palo Alto Independent Films Group Matinee !!!
