BAWL Critique Group Meeting

  • Feb 20, 2014 · 7:00 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

Everyone is welcome.

We critique all genres: fiction, nonfiction, poetry, essay, memoir, and recently, a screen play. This is an especially good group if you haven't been to a critique group before.

Discussing your work and your plans as an author is what we are about. Some of our members write in more than one genre, but all of us are enthusiastic and as eager to hear new work as to be heard by others. Another group member will be glad to read your writing sample if you wish. It's entirely up to you.

Bring copies (5-7) so each person in the group can share their ideas and suggestions AND write notes on their copy and return it to you. It's difficult, but please limit your writing sample to 500 words (or less), size 12 or 14 font, and double-spaced to leave room for comments.

Poets usually bring two poems on separate pages. The format of the poems is not restricted since format is often a significant part of the message.

If we do not have enough time to to review everyone's work, those members who have to wait will be first on the agenda at our next meeting. We try to wrap up by 9 p.m., but sometimes go to 9:30 p.m.

* * * * *  Visitors are always welcome! * * * * *

We love what we do and want to share it with YOU. (Thank goodness, I'm not a poet.)

    Preparing for gallbladder surgery scheduled early Friday morning. Wish me luck. Miss going to the meetings, but have limited activity due to health. Trying to get better.

    I would like to make a suggestion, since this group is getting too big, we should break out in smaller groups that way everyone gets critiqued. Or we can take home their work and critique within the two weeks and bring it back to the next meeting. I like smaller groups, that's the only way it's more effective to me. That's a suggestion.

      I'm willing to go with smaller groups. How many would be allowed in the smaller groups though? Alternatively, would it be okay to keep a large group but limit the number of presenters to a specific number?
