Contemplative Safari in Zambia

  • Jul 17, 2013 · 7:00 PM

My wife Laura and I are organizing a small group (6-10 people besides us) to travel to Zambia next July to see wildlife and experience the culture. Trip will include simple yoga sessions, meditations, and other contemplative practices to help us open more deeply to the experience. Information at:
It is nearly impossible to travel to Africa without being deeply touched. The sheer abundance of wildlife and vast expanses of natural landscape inspire awe. The continent is home to numerous indigenous peoples, cultural traditions and rituals, and decades-old nations still working to establish basic literacy and health programs.
Open Heart Safari is designed for people who want to experience the beauty and subtleties and challenges of Africa. We get close to wild animals in vehicle, on foot, boating down river; visit remote wilderness areas far from other tourists; visit rural and urban communities; meet with conservationists and activists. The trip incorporates contemplative practices, yoga, movement, poetry, and regular group check-ins to deepen our connection to the environment, explore our experiences, and keep our minds, bodies and spirits healthy.
This is not a business, and I am not making any money--it's just a project I've felt inspired to create.
Our inaugural Open Heart Safari this past August was a tremendous success (see testimonials on trip website). So we're doing it again! Our next trip is July 17-31, 2013, with an optional 2-day extension to Botswana, July 31-Aug. 2. We hope you'll consider joining us.
Please contact me if interested, or if you have any questions. I have created a website giving info about the trip:
