This is a professionally guided/instructed class:
I'm teaching a Self Rescue Class for another Meetup group (Get your Climb on/GYCO) this Sunday at Cragmont in the Berkeley Hills, and there are a few spots still available. I thought some people from this Meetup may be interested in taking the class.
Information about the class can be found here:http://www.meetup.com/Get-Your-Climb-On/events/141255572/
The class is a full day, hands on class. You'll learn and practice a series of skills including:
-Belaying from above using a Grigri, Reverso and Munter Hitch
-Using friction hitches such as the Prussik, Autoblock and Klemheist
-Load transfer systems, like the Munter Mule Overhand
-Raising systems, including 3:1 haul, 2:1 on a 3:1, and the assisted 3:1
-Improvised ascent systems
-Passing a knot while belaying or rappelling
-Counter-balance and multi-person rappel systems
This is a condensed version of the Outdoor Adventure Club's (http://www.OutdoorAdventureClub.com) very successful two-day Self Rescue Class. We cover the same material in both classes. The difference between the one day and two day versions is the amount of review we can do at the start of the class, and the number of scenarios we can practice with the skills taught in the class. The skills taught in both classes are identical, though.
The class fee is $125, a significant savings over the standard class fee.
Technically there are no prerequisites for the class, but people who have taken a thorough Gear and Anchor Class tend to do well in the class.
Let me know if you have any questions about the class. I'm happy to help you figure out if the class is right for you.
