Join Our Bay Area Climbers Coalition & Indian Rock-South Bay-Cleanup

The Bay Area Climbers Coalition focuses on identifying and creating opportunities within the climbing community for maintaining/renewing access, educating climbers, becoming better stewards, and hosting conservation events.

We encourage any climber who has an idea for a crag clean-up event, community education project, or more to contact us at [masked].

Thank you for your interest in volunteering your time to play a major role in helping to clean-up Indian Rock.

Join our Face Book page and sign up for the event: https://www.facebook.com/events/551866394911406/?ref_newsfeed_story_type=regular

Indian Rock (in the South Bay) is one of the premier Bay Area crags with amazing bouldering, top rope, and sport climbs. Many climbers know it as the "sweet free parking spots for Castle Rock" but many more know it as home to some of the best boulder problems in the greater Castle Rock area.

Join the Bay Area Climbers Coalition in partnering with the Santa Clara County Parks department to take on some needed cleaning and maintaince around Indian Rock.

Besides all the awesome work that we will be doing, there will also be tasty free food, VIP/reseved parking, sweet raffle prizes, and post clean-up event sloper crushing.

Volunteer Roles

Teams of 2 or 3 will be sent to each of the different bouldering and rope climbing areas to pick up trash, clear trails, identify and block off "rogue" trails, and brush off any excess chalk.

The "main event" will take place at Indian Rock itself. Volunteers are needed to help with the construction of a trail from upper to lower Indian Rock. The current trail is causing erosion issues, and in general is unsafe and unsightly for climbers, hikers, and other users of the park space.

Parking/Food/Water/Tools

Parking - We will be working with the Santa Clara County Parks department to block off the parking spots at Indian Rock. Please try and carpool with other climbers from your area. You can arrange carpools via the Bay Area Climbers Coalition's facebook group.

Food - We are working on food and snack sponsors for this event. If you know of someone who would be interested in sponsoring, please have them contact us.

Water - We will have water and other hydrating beverages available. If you have a water bottle, please feel free to bring it with you. Please note, there is not a water fountain at Indian Rock.

Tools - we will be getting tools and gloves from the Santa Clara County Parks department, you are also welcome to bring your own lucky shovel, push broom, or gloves.

Just curious! Is there going to be any climbing after the cleanup ?

Yeah, Moulik we won't be able to climb. Park rules are that you wait 3 days after a rain. It's not for our protection but for the rock. We want all those awesome holds to stay where they belong :) It will be an awesome day though with up to 70 peeps coming.

Just a friendly reminder that because it rained it might not be wise to climb and considered an unspoken spoken rule to not climb there until 48 hours after it rains. It may impact integrity of rock and surround area and anchor points.
