Anythink Libraries in Thornton has received a federal grant to revamp our teen space into an area focused on STEM and digital media creation-- everything from video to music to game creation.
The program is based on a successful initiative at the Chicago Public Library called "YOUmedia" that pairs industry professionals with teens so that they can learn more about a skill area that interests them and provide insight into career possibilities they may not have had exposure to.
We're going to open in early March, and so we're at the point now where we're looking for community mentors. It would basically be a 2-3 hour session a week commitment for anywhere between 3 and 6 weeks, depending on what kind of project you'd like to do with the teens. There is a small stipend per session offered.
Examples of projects from Chicago include: an issue of an online literary magazine, a video game podcast, music video, Scratch 2.0 workshop, Coder Dojo, Lego robotics, etc.
We'd love to hear *your* ideas, though!
