Philly BrewPub Transit Tour II

Join us for the second PBTT on Saturday, February 25th, beginning at noon. We will travel by mass transit (bus, subway, trolley and rail) and on foot to all 9 breweries/brewpubs in one exciting day!  You can join us for the full day, or hop on-board anytime.  The scheduled arrival times at each location are listed below.  I will be posting the complete schedule just before the tour (with what mass transit we're taking when).

There is no charge to attend, and it's pay-as-you-go.  There are public brewery tours at PBC & Yards, and we should be getting private tours at Triumph and Dock Street.

Meet at Noon at Philadelphia Brewing Company (PBC).
If you don’t make it there by 1 PM we will be gone and on our way to the next stop!

Visiting the following locations:
> Philadelphia Brewing Company (Kensington) – start at noon
> Yards Brewing Company (Northern Liberties) – arrive at 1:20
> Triumph Brewing Company (Old City) – arrive at 2:38
> Dock Street Brewing Company (West Philly) – arrive at 4:10
> Iron Hill Chestnut Hill (Chestnut Hill) – arrive at 6:21
> Earth – Bread + Brewery (Mt. Airy) – arrive at 7:13
> Manayunk Brewery and Restaurant (Manayunk) – arrive at 8:56
> The Farmer’s Cabinet (Center City) – arrive at 10:28
> Nodding Head Brewery & Restaurant (Center City) – arrive at 11:08

Recommendations:
> Be Punctual - We will average just over 50 minutes at each stop, sticking to a strict time schedule.  There will be 10 and 5 minute warnings before our departure to catch the next connection.
> Purchase a SEPTA Independence Pass ($11) - it allows all-day city transit travel and will be valid on all forms of transportation that we will be using.
> Wear good walking shoes - we will be walking periodically throughout the day - the furthest walking distance between stops is .6 miles.  The total walking distance will be less than 2 ½ miles.
> Bring money - this is pay-as-you-go.  Most places charge for beer and food, so bring enough funds to satisfy your beer and food appetite.
o Note:  Food is available at most locations – I will have the menus – but it’s tough to order and eat there… so be prepared to get it to go!.  If you want to have food at any stop, order it as soon as you get there!
> Transportation - If you’re taking mass transit to and from the crawl (like I am!), here are some tips:
o To PBC - take the Market-Frankford Line to 2nd Street & Market.  Then transfer to the Route 5 Bus (at Front & Market Streets) at 11:26 (for arrival at PBC at 11:42).
o From Nodding Head – from 15th and Sansom St, you will have easy access to the Market-Frankford Line and the Subway Line at 15th & Market or Suburban Station at 16th & JFK.

******Some final updates******

I did tweak the schedule slightly (by minutes here and there), so if you are joining us somewhere enroute, it will be more or less the same time, but you may want to check (http://www.clubedventures.com/edvents/pbtt/PBTT.htm). We are still starting at noon at PBC. Between the two Meetup groups and Club Ed friends, I’m expecting 12-16 participants.

Dress for the windy weather!!! We will be outside on occasion, so bring layers.

If enough folks are on time this time, we'll do the PBC tour - or some may do it while I wait for stragglers. We'll do the public tour at Yards, and (yeah!) once again have the private tour at Triumph and Dock Street. After that, nothing special - except the beer, of course.

My recommended strategies for eating: Triumph is ready for us to call and supplied a special PBTT menu, so if you want to eat there (as many did last time), we can call it in at Yards so that you have a fighting chance of eating it while in Triumph. After that, we have a slight wait at 30th Street, so you can grab something at Au Bon Pain, McD's, or something else and eat it on the train. After that, we'll be into the busier dinner/night crowds at places and ordering food will be an issue.

Ed's tour was perfectly planned and executed. Each location was great, particularly the ones I was seeing for the first time! We got first-class treatment and insight from the area's top brewers, plus many free samples. Ed offered good advice on squeezing in food opportunities along the way. All our Beer Meetup members attended at least part of the tour, plus a nice crowd from Clubedventures. It was a fun, knowledgeable group of beer aficionados. The travels in-between offered plenty of chance to socialize and swap opinions on suds. It actually made riding SEPTA seem fun! My only regret is wishing I could have stayed for the entire trip. Great work, Ed! A Philly beer-lover's magical mystery tour...

I met my friends at Dock Street (said hello to Dennis) and met up with Ed's group. Dock Street gave us a nice tour/presenting. Also went to Iron Hill & Earth Bread + Brewery. Ed did a great job of organizing and keeping everyone on schedule.
