Kiki's House of Righteous Music and Posole Party - Part 2

This Meetup is cross-listed on SPDA's site. Please just sign up on one site.

Last year, a bunch of us had a great time in Kiki's basement. I had a posole party, and then a bunch of us went to hear music at Kiki's House of Righteous Music. For those of you who didn't make it ... there is a woman in town, Kiki, who has both national and local musicians play in her house. Actually, in her basement. We're talking an unfinished, regular-old basement here; I've seen national acts playing next to Kiki's water heater. Let's face it...Kiki is really cool.

This year, Kiki is having a show on my birthday. I wish I could tell you she was having it in my honor...oh heck, I can tell you that, right? Who's gonna check? She is hosting Chris Mills, who Kiki has been raving about to me for 3 years. There is a link below where you can listen to Chris Mills' music...check it out first. I'd have to call him "indie rock". Cost of the music show: $10. Please pay Kiki directly (see below).

So, once again I'll be have a "Pre-Kiki's Posole Party" I'll be making a big pot of posole (I'll let you google "posole"), we'll eat it, drink a glass of wine or beer, you can comment on how young I look for my age, and then we'll drive over to Kiki's and listen to the music.

For the concert, buy tickets from Kiki directly (info below, along with her description of the show). AND...don't be afraid to buy tickets in the fear that you might have to cancel. I've done it twice, and Kiki has always been good about refunding it, or applying it to later shows. Like I said, Kiki is really cool. She's all about the music.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

UPDATE: please note: I have not limited the number of people who can sign up. You are not guaranteed a seat until you pay Kiki!

Also: Posole Party starts at 5:30 at my house, but come anytime before 8. I am on the Far East Side.

You only need to bring beer or wine. If you want to bring a side dish or dessert, just include it in your post. If you are vegetarian, something for you to eat, because Posole's got pork in it! I will also be looking for help with bowls, eventually.

Kiki's doors open at 8, show starts at 9, so we'll leave my house about 8:15.

------------------------------------------------------------------

Also, when you make your reservation with Kiki, please write "Carl Sent Me" on the check, or when you email her or talk to her on the phone. This gets me in VERY good with Kiki!.

Please indicate whether you already have tickets or not on this meetup board.

You can get the tickets at the door if the basement isn't already filled, but I wouldn't count on it. Plus, then you'll miss my party:) You can get Kiki's address directly from her if you are skipping my party.

BTW, Kiki provides a cooler with ice for those of us clever enough to bring beer or other refreshment (adult or not).

Let's fill up Kiki's basement with Forever Youngsters! See you in the basement.

The Description Of The Show From Kiki:

Hope you are having a great holiday season! Here's one more present for you. Chris Mills & the Distant Stars will be playing at the House of Righteous Music on Saturday, January 25th at 9 pm (doors at 8), suggested donation $10. I always say I love all my shows equally, but that's not quite true- there are some I love more than others, and this is one of them. Mills was my second house concert ever, and I've never been more nervous than I was before that show. He's one of my absolute favorite singer/songwriters. If you haven't heard him, please check him out, and I hope you can make it to the show.

It was great experiencing music in this cozy basement. Chris Mill's band put on an energetic musical show and had a great rapport with the audience.

The whole evening was delightful - the posole and potluck, the birthday celebration cheescake, the wonderful Chris Mills band and having the band sing a Norwegian birthday song to Carl! Thank you Carl for inviting all of us out for an amazing evening!

    Hi Everyone!

This group has really grown! Please keep your RSVPs up to date, as I need a final head count for dinner on Saturday. If anyone would like to bring a salad, a dessert, or help with bowls, please let me know. Also, if you haven't bought your tickets from Kiki, now is a good time. Please remember the "Carl sent me" wen you buy them...we are keeping track of how many people form this group come (I'm hoping for a group discount in the future:)

See you Saturday night. I open my doors at 5:30, but come anytime you'd like. Dinner will be ready about 7 or so.

I will be there, it's just that the other posting never showed up on my calendar no matter how many times I refreshed. All better now, still under SPDA.
