Hello everybody!

I see that Ed has posted a beginners' ride for Saturday, April 7, 2012, starting at the same time, from the same place, and following much the same route that I had mapped out for the "First Saturday of the Month Coffee-Break Ride".  He has got several people signed up already, so I'm thinking that instead of trailing Ed (or letting him trail us!), I'll post something a bit different.

My idea is to start at the same time and place, but head south along the San Diego Creek Trail to the intersection of University and California.  From there, we'll ride through the UCI-adjacent residential area to Culver/Bonita Canyon Drive, and then turn right.  We'll take Bonita to Turtle Ridge, where we'll turn left, and start climbing up to Newport Coast, where we'll turn left and then climb to the top.  It's not very far and it's not too much of a climb, but we'll get to coast down the other side of Newport Coast to Pacific Coast Highway, where the beautiful Pacific Ocean will greet us!  From there, we'll travel north on PCH into Corona del Mar, where we'll stop for a bit at Brueggers Bagels.  After our break, we'll climb up Poppy to 5th Avenue, and then up Marguerite.  Instead of turning right and climbing San Joaquin Hills Road, we'll cross San Joaquin Hills Rd, turn left at Pacific View Drive, and then turn right onto San Miguel Drive.  We'll take San Miguel to Ford Road, turn right onto Ford, left onto Prairie, and then turn right back onto Bonita Canyon.  We'll take Bonita Canyon to Shady Canyon, where we'll make a right turn.  At the intersection of Shady Canyon and Sunnyhill, we'll enter and pass through Shady Canyon along its bike path.  We'll make a 1/4 turn at the roundabout onto Quail Hill, then make a 3/4 turn at the roundabout at Laguna Canyon Road, and then pass over the 405 freeway going north to Barranca Parkway.  We'll turn left onto Barranca and take it to Harvard, where we'll turn left and then turn into the Irvine Civic Center to the start.  I'll figure out the distance and post it here.

Please show up about 9:00 a.m.; we'll start rolling at 9:15 a.m. sharp!!!  Look forward to seeing you on Saturday.
