Saguaro National Park is split with Tucson in between. To follow up our Cactus Loop ride last week through Saguaro East ride, we will go through the West Gate, heading west over Gates Pass, then riding a long, long straight road (remember El Tour has a few of these) until we have a nice climb back over Twin Peaks. The ride will wind back via the bike path, before our last climb up Sweetwater and Camino de Oeste, then back on the beautifully paved Anklam road. This is another extra 10 miles more than Week 3, with a steep climb at the beginning to tire your legs, and another one at the end to do them in. At 55 miles with climbs, we'll be done by a little after 11 am, giving us time to start at a reasonable 6:30am. The weather should be cooling off at this point. If it's not, I'll move the start time back a half hour.
Note, this is a no-drop ride. We have 3 re-grouping spots which are determined during the ride.
About Downtown El Tour Training Rides:
Welcome to the El Tour Training Ride Series from Downtown. These rides start from where El Tour starts at Armory Park, and pick off different portions of the course (as well as some of my favorite rides). The end to each ride has a breakfast/brunch option. The rides will increase from 24 miles week 1 to close to 100 miles prior to El Tour. Pace will always be a C+ to a B (12-16 mph average) depending on elevation gain.
