SUMMARY:October 8 GABA Meeting – The Perfect Machine – Bicycles Before
  Carbon
DESCRIPTION:Greater Arizona Bicycling Association (GABA)\nIt's time to sta
rt our annual series of monthly October-thru-March GABA meetings.\nOur spe
aker for the Oct 8 meeting will be Greg Yares. Greg has been riding bicycl
es since he was 6 years old and he's been collecting bicycles for some 30
years. He will tell us about his bicycle collection at the meeting and eve
n share some amazing old bicycles in person.\n\nGreg’s collection includ
es a range of bicycles\, some of which are now more than 50 years old\, in
cluding lightweight steel-framed bikes from the 1970s. As he says\, those
bicycles were “built by humans with true pride in their craft.”\n\nIf
you are going to attend the meeting and have a bicycle you love\, bring it
to the meeting. It will be fun to talk bicycle hardware and about how thi
ngs have changed.\n\nAnd if you want to know more detail about Greg’s bi
ke collection before the meeting\, here’s the link to a 2014 Desert Leaf
article written by Claire Rogers about Greg’s bike collecting activity
 back then. [https://online.fliphtml5.com/uyvk/rrjk/#p=8](https://online.fl
iphtml5.com/uyvk/rrjk/#p=8) .\n\n**DATE AND TIME:** Please join your fello
w GABA members to hear Greg’s story (and feel free to bring guests). The
meeting starts at 7:00 pm on October 8\, 2026. But doors will open at 6:3
0 so you can come early and socialize with other GABA members.\n**LOCATION
:** The presentation will be at the East Murphey Gallery at the St Philips
in the Hills Church\, located at the NE corner of Campbell and River (444
0 N Campbell) Note that this **NOT** the St Phillips Plaza where you park
for the Loop trail. Rather it’s on the north side of River Road. There a
re entrances off both Campbell and River.\n**PARKING:** Drive into the par
king lot and try to park under or near the solar panels. From there\, look
to the southwest for GABA signs that will direct you to the building with
the meeting room. A map showing the location of the parking lot and the r
oute to the meeting room is available at [https://tinyurl.com/StPhillipsMa
