Ride the Planet of the Apes!
The Planet of the Apes is the old San Pedro Mt Road that was abandoned after highway 1 was opened around Devil's Slide. The road is now a hiking and biking trail and is good enough condition for a road bike.
We'll meet up at the North Berkeley BART at 8:00 AM and take the train to Daly City BART where we will start the ride.
You may also opt to meet us at the Daly City BART station at 8:50 AM.
From Daly City we will follow a section of the Bay Area Ridge trail that runs through Daly City residential streets and make our way to Half Moon Bay via back roads totally avoiding highway 1.
The San Benito House our suggested lunch stop.
After lunch in Half Moon Bay we'll continue on highway 1 for 4 miles and head towards the Peninsula via Verde Rd, Lobitos Creek Rd, Tunitas Creek Rd, Kings Mountain Rd, Woodside Rd.
In Redwood City there is the option of taking the Caltrain back to San Francisco. The Redwood Caltrain station is located near Jefferson and the El Camino Real behind the Safeway.
Bring a helmet (required), spare tube, lights, water, snacks, money for lunch and BART.
The ride is 78 miles long and about 4500 feet of climbing. This will be a no drop ride and we will wait at key points for all to catch up.
See the following link for the route:
Rain or bad weather will cancel the ride.
