This is one of my favorite, scenic, moderately difficult, "Bike to BART" loops.
Meet: 9:15 AM Ready to roll: 9:30 AM
Miles: ~40 (~64 if you want to ride up Redwood Rd. back to start)
Ascent: ~2700 feet
12-16 MPH on flats. We will congregate for 10 minutes at the top of hills and intersections, but please be able to keep up the advertised pace. Bailout West Dublin/Pleasanton BART.
The ride starts off on Park Blvd. and Leimert with a climb to Redwood Rd. with some fine bay views. Next is a long forested descent and rollers to Castro Valley, and up and over the gradual Dublin grade into San Ramon. After a lunch break, we finish with a short but steep ascent to the top of Norris Canyon and are rewarded with a long, gradual descent to the Castro Valley BART. There is rural land and scenery sandwiched between San Ramon and Castro Valley, an interesting juxtaposition.
Spare tube, water, lytes, snacks, money, ID, and HELMET.
There are rest stops along the way as needed and we have one planned lunch stop.
Activity Fee: 2.00 for non-organizers
