    Description: This is a scenic tour of the Peninsula that covers the Crystal Springs Reservoir, Bicycle Sunday on Canada Road, the tree-lined roads of Woodside and Portola Valley, with a loop of the iconic Stanford Campus where we will have lunch. This route has minimal stop signs or intersections. Views from both directions are uniquely stunning. Here is a list of stops:

    0 mi - Downtown San Mateo: Good for coffee and breakfast
    17 mi - Portola Town Center: Water and restroom stop
    26 mi - Stanford's Coupa Cafe: Lunch and restroom stop
    37 mi - Pulgas Water Temple (Crystal Springs): Water and restroom stop
    45 mi - The end

    This ride will be rescheduled if it rains.

    Meet: 9:15 AM Depart: 9:30 AM sharp.

    Transportation/Parking: Free parking in the lot behind Starbucks between 4th and 5th, at Central Park, other garages, or on San Mateo streets because it's Sunday. Please mind the overhead clearance if you have a rooftop rack for the covered garages.  Downtown San Mateo Caltrain is 0.3 miles away (take the train that arrives at 8:51am). If you prefer to BART, you can ride from Millbrae BART along California Drive (4.4 miles, takes about 30 minutes).

    Bring: Helmet, tube, snacks, fluids, sunscreen. Bring cash or credit card for lunch at Stanford's Coupa Cafe.

    Pace: Ride average of 15 mph (spirited); 12-18 mph on the flats. 10 min. wait at the top of hills to regroup. This is a "Social Pace, not a Race" ride, and we will work on basic group-riding etiquette (signaling, pace lines, spacing, and moving as a group at all intersections). I stop for all red lights and stop signs.

    Fitness Level: This is an intermediate-level ride and not for beginners. A road bike is strongly recommended to keep pace. There are two shorter climbs with the bulk of the elevation gain made of rolling hills on smooth tarmac.
