Daly City to Redwood City via the Planet of the Apes!

Ride the Planet of the Apes!

Planet of the Apes is the old San Pedro Mt Road that was abandoned after highway 1 was opened around Devil's Slide. The road is now a hiking and biking trail and is good enough condition for a road bike.

We'll meet up at the North Berkeley BART and take the train to Daly City BART where we will start the ride. From here we will follow a section of the Bay Area Ridge trail that runs through Daly City residential streets and make our way to Half Moon Bay via back roads totally avoiding highway 1.

After lunch in Half Moon Bay we'll continue on highway 1 for 4 miles and head towards the Peninsula via Verde Rd, Lobitos Creek Rd, and Tunitas Creek Road.

Bring a helmet (required), spare tube, lights, water, snacks, money for lunch, BART and Caltrains. The Clipper Card is good for both BART and Caltrains.

The ride is 55 miles long and has just under 4000 feet of climbing. This will be a no drop ride and we will wait at key points for all to catch up.

See the following link for the route:

Rain or bad weather will cancel the ride.

I am sorry I missed this ride. So bummed. I bet it was gorgeous. I hope you do it again and I hope if you do, that I can join the next one. Thanks.

It looks like BART trains leave at 8:06 or 8:26; I'm guessing you're aiming for the 8:06, so you might want to warm people of this :-)

Um, I'm guessing you're going to arrive in Daly City around 8:49 a.m., is that correct? Can someone text me in the a.m. to confirm please? Because that might be more palatable than 8:06 a.m. at Daly City, which is what I thought, but no one corrected me. Maybe no one is checking emails. Anyway, I guess if I hear nothing, I'll assume either no one is checking emails or people don't want me on this ride. But that's ok, I'm still a maybe. Thanks.

Are you leaving at 8 a.m. from Berkeley or leaving at 8 from Daly City? Because if you're leaving at 8 from Daly City, I probably won't be ready by then. But if you're leaving at some other later time, let me know please via text -[masked]-8889. Thanks.

I'd love to do this ride one day, but I need to rest up tomorrow, as I do ride my bike to work all week. (Not a big deal, five miles one way, but I do find the rest is good.)

Just to confirm, road bike will work? I do not have fat tires or a mtn bike. Thanks.

I am a maybe, but since I live .6 miles from the Daly City BART, it'd be lame not to join. But I do work late, so 8:06 a.m. start is why I am in the maybe zone. I would like to join though because I am on a temporary project in Palo Alto and it'd be nice to see this route. Will confirm on Saturday. Cheers. :)

This looks great; I'm going to try to join you, but if I go I will probably turn around at the 20 mile mark. Since I'm living in SF now, I'll meet you at the Daly City station (or maybe on the train). I'll confirm by Saturday if I can make it.

I will be on the last car of the train.
