The Power of Bitcoin: Seminar, Workshop, & World's First Live Bitcoin Fundraiser

*Venue has been changed to 515 W Hastings (SFU Harbour Centre), Room 1430*

The Simon Fraser Bitcoin Club is hosting a seminar and workshop to help initiate you into Bitcoin. You've heard of it in business magazines and seen it on finance news headlines all year. But what next? Should you become a part of it, and if so, how?

The Power of Bitcoin will focus on the long-term monetary and political implications of the digital currency, including its potential for crowdfundingThe workshop portion will teach you how to create and secure a Bitcoin wallet, and you will get the opportunity to buy your first bitcoins and use it for a good cause on-the-spot. We have partnered with the SFU chapter of Schools Building Schools for this event for the world's FIRST live Bitcoin fundraiser! SBS is a federally registered charity that helps build schools in Uganda (www.schoolsbuildingschools.org/). During the mini-fundraiser portion of the workshop, any money raised will go directly to SBS. To sweeten things, The Bitcoin Co-op will match audience donations up to $500.

Bring your smartphone, tablet, or laptop for the workshop portion. Come for the light refreshments and stay for the prizes. One lucky member of the audience will win bitcoins.

If anyone posts a reddit link to Schools Building Schools accepting BTC donations, share the link to the reddit post so we can help promote it and get more exposure. I guess tomorrow might be a bad day to post it - everyone will be on top of Bitcoin Friday, but Saturday or Sunday should be a good time to get more exposure.

Well organised and very informative, especially Riku's.
Thanks to the SFU Bitcoin club for putting it together. I'm happy to have been introduced to a decentralised currency, seems like it is going to be rather useful in the financial future to come.

#love that it is purely mathematical.
    Thanks for showing that tonight.
I think I will enjoy to study this.

Excellent presentation, with a great high-level over-view mixed with practical information. Good facility too.

Great meetup. It's nice to see a lot of people interested in Bitcoin, as well as being able to purchase BTC on the spot. The presentations were interesting - it's good to hear about the useful applications of Bitcoin, rather than just everyone singing praises about it's current price. The latter can change, the former won't.

The idea of country-independent currency sounds great. I would like to learn more about it.
