Unfortunately, I will need to cancel my participation as a judge this year. I will instead be meeting with Microsoft and other potential partners to discuss ABEST programming and hopefully secure some funding. I will very likely be sitting face-to-face with Microsoft while the Science, Engineering fair takes place. I would very much like to be able to tell Microsoft that there are ABEST members judging Middle and High School science and engineering projects at that very moment.
I participated in this activity last year. It was a wonderful experience. It also led to a fair amount of fresh professional contacts. I encourage all who can get away on a Friday to consider volunteering to judge these projects for middle school and high school students, at the Georgia State Science and Engineering Fair, on the campus of UGA.

This is an exciting opportunity to work with high-end Life Science instrumentation and support a growing international team. Job details are as follows:
The individual in this position is responsible for providing Life Science/Mass Spec technical support for the assigned regions. Will assists on pre-sale and post-sale support of the MS products to include demonstration, sample analysis, seminars, installations, training customers and regional personnel and assisting customers with adapting methodology for our instruments. This position is required to assist the sales efforts by providing MS technical expertise to the SSI International territories and assigned region(s) customers and staff.
This position's primary focus is to provide technical expertise for the selling effort of the international department.
Demonstrations and assist with MS sales calls. Promotion of all Life Science products. Provide sample analysis and adapt customer methodology with our instrumentation. Assist the region in achieving customer satisfaction with assigned products. Manage and maintain the regional MS demonstration inventory. Create and present regional and customer training (and seminars) as the regional expert for the MS products. Must be capable of independent preparation of samples, sample analysis and interpretation of results, and report generation. Assist the Analytical Latin America Business Manager as necessary. Must Travel as required, which includes weekends and overnight travel, by car and by plane. Travel can vary by International Territories from 20% to in excess of 50%. Valid USA passport is required. Desired Skills and Experience Knowledge Requirements:
Bilingual – English/Spanish
Education and/or Experience:
Incumbent is required to have a bachelor’s degree, in Analytical Chemistry (or a closely related field), coupled with five or more years’ experience in LC/GC MS or equivalent aggregate experience. It is required that the incumbent be bilingual in both English/Spanish (speaking and writing). A Master Degree or Ph.D., with intensive dissertation research in an LC/GC MS area of laboratory experience is an acceptable substitute for the five year experience requirement.
Verifiable competency in GC/LC MS, excellent presentation and communication skills are required.
