Dear ABEST Members,

The Fulton County Science Fair is tomorrow. This is a big deal for our children and our communities. I recently attended two of these (tomorrow's will be my 3rd one this month). Believe me if you attend, it will be an eye-opener for you. I know it has been for me.

If you haven't already signed up, why not get a community service project done during the first month of the new year?

In fact, Karol Stephens, the STEM coordinator for Fulton County schools (and organizer of this science fair) has been very supportive of ABEST! So lets all reciprocate. This is how good partnerships get started....

On behalf of Fulton County Schools, I invite you to participate as a judge in the 2013 Fulton County Regional Science and Engineering Fair. The fair gives students, grades 6 – 12, within our public, private, charter and home schools the opportunity to explore and investigate the world of science, mathematics, and technology through hands-on research and experimentation in order to refine their understanding of the scientific process. By participating in scientific research, students develop science problem solving and research skills and an appreciation for science that will prepare them for their future.

The Fulton County Science and Engineering Fair will be held on January 19, 2013 at Westlake High School at 2400 Union Road in Atlanta, GA 30331. Judges should expect to arrive at approximately 9:00 A.M. for a continental breakfast and orientation and finish at approximately 3:00 P.M. An awards ceremony will be held at 3:15 and judges are invited to stay. Lunch will be provided.

Serving as a science fair judge is a rewarding experience that will take a small amount of your valuable time but one that provides our students the chance to interact with an experienced professional from their own field of interest who provides them constructive feedback regarding their research. Holding the fair on a Saturday allows our students and their families a greater opportunity for participation without loss of their school instruction. For judges, it allows your support of the fair with an option of employer flexibility for your participation. Experiences such as this are essential in the students’ growth and development as future scientists, mathematicians, and engineers. It supports them as they acquire their needed skills as future researchers and practitioners. We value your expertise and experience in this regard. To participate as a judge, please complete and submit the online judge’s registration which can be found via the following link:

Please share this invitation with your professional colleagues who may wish to participate. We welcome graduate student participation also. Additional information about the Fulton County Regional Science and Engineering Fair can be found at:
