What Holds Me Now: Finding Support, Anchors & Stability After Religious Trauma
Details
After leaving harmful or high-control religious spaces, many survivors find themselves asking a quiet but important question:
“If I’m no longer holding on to what once guided me… what is holding me now?”
For many of us, the Black Church provided structure, community, rhythm, identity, and a sense of certainty. So when we step away—whether by choice or necessity—it can leave behind not only relief, but also a sense of disorientation, loneliness, or instability.
And yet, over time, something begins to emerge…
New forms of support.
New ways of grounding.
New anchors that help us feel steady, safe, and connected again.
In this support group, we’ll gently explore:
-
What has been holding you up since leaving?
-
What are you currently leaning on for support, comfort, or stability?
-
What anchors—big or small—are helping you navigate this season?
-
What does support look like now, outside of the structures you once relied on?
This is not about having everything figured out.
It’s about noticing what is already present—and honoring the ways you are supporting yourself, even in the midst of change.
Whether your anchors are still forming or already taking shape, this space is here for reflection, connection, and gentle grounding.
You don’t have to carry this alone.
Come as you are.
See you on 3/26/26 @7pm EST
