TIME … We will gather starting at 6:30 to socialize and get settled. Pencils up at 7pm sharp!

WHAT TO EXPECT … Everyone will receive the same Sudoku puzzles and will start at the same time. First woman to accurately complete a puzzle will win 3 points (second gets 2, third gets 1). Puzzles will begin with easy grids and progress to more challenging. The woman with the most points by the end of the session will go home with a little trophy. (Challenge: Can any of us beat math whiz Abby Z from Greenacres?)

ABOUT SUDOKU … Sudoku is a logic-based, number-placement puzzle. The objective is to fill a 9x9 grid so that each column, each row, and each of the nine 3x3 boxes (also called blocks or regions) contains the digits from 1 to 9 only one time each.

HISTORY & SUDOKU TRIVIA … The modern puzzle was invented by American architect Howard Garns in 1979, and published by Dell Magazines under the name Numbers in Place. It was popularized in 1986 by the Japanese puzzle company Nikoli, under the name Sudoku, meaning "single number." It became an international hit in 2005. In 1997, retired Hong Kong judge Wayne Gould, a New Zealander, saw a partly completed puzzle in a Japanese bookshop. The rapid rise of Sudoku in Britain from relative obscurity to a front-page feature in national newspapers attracted commentary in the media and parody. In the United States, the first newspaper to publish a Sudoku puzzle (by Wayne Gould) was the New Hampshire Conway Daily Sun, in 2004. The world's first live TV Sudoku show, Sky One, aired July 1, 2005.
