What: Appalachian Trail Section Hike NY

Section hike a route of the Appalachian trail in NY. Starting near Bear Mt. and ending in Sterling Forest. It will be a fast moving first day covering around 8.5 miles to the shelter. We will camp there at the William Brien Memorial shelter. The second day there are two options parking lots 3.5 miles and 6 miles from the shelter.
"The Appalachian Trail is a 2,175-mile long public footpath. Conceived in 1921 and completed in 1937, private citizens built the trail and thousands like you each year volunteer to maintain its footprint. From Maine?s Mount Katahdin and Georgia?s Springer Mountain"TRANSPORT
I have a car upstate but will only use it at one end of the trail, we will need one other car at the other end. If we can't fit everyone in a car, buses run to Bear Mt. OUTBOUND:
Leave early Saturday May 22. The Short line bus to Bear Mountain leaves Port Authority at 8:45am and puts us at the Bear Mountain Inn at 10:15am. The tickets are $13.35 the parking lot near our trail head is a few miles form Bear mt. RETURN:
Late afternoon Sunday May 23. One car back to NYC after picking up the second car. GEAR / FOOD:
This is for experienced backcountry campers and it's expected that you will have all the gear and skills necessary for a two day excursion.
