DATE CHANGE: AUTUMN CATSKILL ADVENTURE

From: John D
Sent on: Tuesday, October 14, 2008 12:01 PM
Announcing date change:

What: AUTUMN CATSKILL ADVENTURE

When: November 21,[masked]:00 AM or November 22 8:00 AM

Meetup Description: AUTUMN CATSKILL ADVENTURE
November is THE month for intrepid BLAZE >> members to head into the woods before winter hits hard.
As the date draws near I will choose a specific mountain trail, but I guarantee it will be beautiful, remote, serene and more than likely very crisp. We will pack all gear to backcountry camp. The trek in is usually at least 4 miles from parked car and requires at least one elevation climb of 1000 feet or more. Average pack weight will be 35lb - 50lbs. Heavy rain/snow cancels trip.

LOGISTICS
I will arrange to rent a car to leave Friday (November 21) morning that will accommodate myself and 3 others. Additional trekkers are welcome if transportation arrangements can be made.

**For those of you that can't leave Friday - If we can form a group and arrange transportation you can head up to the Catskills on Saturday (November 22) morning and meet up with us at a pre-arranged location on the trail. We will return to NYC Sunday evening.

* Please do not be discouraged if you don't feel quite ready for this trip. There will be plenty of events held in the city throughout the winter and many more hikes to join in on when the weather start getting warm again in the spring.

DIFFICULTY
Participants must have the following to qualify for this MeetUp:
- full gear kit for backcountry camping (see list below)
- be in good enough physical condition to carry a 35lbs - 50lbs backpack at least 4 miles over mountainous terrain.
- if not the experience, at least the enthusiasm for backcountry camping in cold conditions for two nights

COSTS
TBD (car rental, gas, shared food)

This is a complete list, some of which ca be shared. As we get close to the date we can decide who brings what to eliminate bringing duplicate gear. This also includes food assignments for shared meals - breakfasts and dinners.
