For many women, the transition to life\u2019s second half is a source of shame or secrecy\u2014but it doesn\u2019t have to be this way. In this Meetup Live event, we talk about aging with grace and the role others play in your journey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Meet Nina Collins, Chief Creative Officer for Revel, a social &amp; events platform devoted to women in the second half of life. Nina explains why women over 40&nbsp;<em>need<\/em>&nbsp;dedicated spaces and how to join a community of like-minded women. You have to dig deep and think about what you personally want to do. If you know you might not make time for it on your own, create a Revel event or a Meetup group, then it&#8217;s on the calendar and other people are interested too to hold you accountable. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>There&#8217;s a period for a lot of women in their late forties when they have a lot of symptoms they don&#8217;t know what to do with, and most of them are around menopause. Doctors give us shockingly limited guidance on this subject. There are a lot of symptoms, and a lot of women get really anxious when they&#8217;re first entering menopause, having a supportive community of other women can help with the anxiety. The bright side is when you get to the other side of it you feel much better. Postmenopause seems to be really great. Your body adjusts and becomes more balanced.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>We can create communities with an open dynamic by being very transparent. The more vulnerable we can be in our communication with each other and about our own troubles, people will become more open in response. People need to talk about menopause more to educate each other and younger generations on what to expect. Menopause and aging are natural and do not need to be taboo topics. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Top Q&amp;A Questions and Resources: <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><strong>How do I know if what I&#8217;m if I&#8217;m experiencing perimenopause or just random symptoms, especially if doctors are not helping?<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>That is super common, I can&#8217;t tell you how many times I&#8217;ve heard that. If you&#8217;re having sleeplessness, staggering periods, or hot flashes it&#8217;s probably perimenopause. If you&#8217;re not getting the right answers from your doctor you need to find a doctor who knows how to treat menopause. There&#8217;s an organization called the National American Menopause Society, NAMS, and they publish a list of menopause doctors all around the country. There are also now some really good telemedicine companies that deal with menopause. Check out Midi Health, Alloy, and Evernow: these are companies where you can speak to a menopause practitioner over the phone or by text and get a consult. You really have to push for good care when you&#8217;re in your forties.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Can you comment on making new women friends on social apps? It can feel like dating at times, how does one best traverse the friend-making effort, and not be triggered by prior bad online dating?<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Try to let go of the past but also be aware of your patterns. If you have the same problem with 10 people it&#8217;s probably you not them. You have to own your behavior and find people that you&#8217;re genuinely interested in.
