About the Talk: Mike will talk about the Ruby gems that he likes best. He will introduce us to some old favorites (like Devise) and some stuff that he is just discovering (like Puma, Sextant, Domino). He will also talk about how to use internal gems to keep your app code modular. 30 minutes

About the Speaker: Mike Subelsky is a programmer and web entrepreneur based in Baltimore. He is currently building the Ruby startup, and has helped found (now part of ReturnPath), Ignite Baltimore, the Baltimore Hackathon, and the Baltimore Improv Group, and is an advisor to local tech companies like Common Curriculum. He also served as a U.S. Navy cryptologic officer for seven years in a variety of domestic and overseas assignments.

Other talks:

  • Development and PhilosophySteve Klabnik. The software world doesn't exist in a void; we can learn a lot by studying philosophy and related subjects. This talk was wide ranging, and was more about planting the seed of knowledge than anything. 30 minutes
  • Intro to 3D JavaScript with Three.js — Chris Strom. Bring your laptops and code along. We will be doing some of the stuff from the forthcoming Gaming JavaScript for Kids book from Pragmatic Programmers. 10 minutes
