Hey folks,

As I mentioned last night, several people including Chris Selmer from Intridea are working on a project to track progress on the oil spill cleanup and mitigation efforts expected to be taking place along the Gulf Coast.

They're modeling an approach based on a revamped version of the VoteReport Rails project I did for the '08 election.

Anyway, they could really use your help. The site is?http://gulfcoastspill.com and will be going live soon.

Meantime, please contact these organizers:

Paul Berger <[address removed]>

Yobie Benjamin <[address removed]>
Chris Selmer <[address removed]>
Brendan Lim <[address removed]>
Andrew Turner <[address removed]>

They need some immediate help implementing Amethyst, a RoR-based blog engine, and they are also working on iPhone and Android apps.

If you can help, it's a good thing to do and will likely lead to good opportunities for code-based philanthropy in the future. For a bit of background, the VoteReport project was used to help shape the Ushahidi Swift River project, which is currently gaining a lot of support as a crisis and election mapping tool. This is part of something big.

Best,
Dave
