About:
The Baltimore Museum of Industry is a museum in Baltimore, Maryland, United States. Located in an old cannery complex, the museum has exhibits on various types of manufacturing and industry from the early 20th century. There are several hands-on sections with working equipment and other artifacts.
This visit was Inspired by Joe Giordano’s June 22 BES presentation. We will visit the Baltimore Museum of Industry on Key Highway in downtown Baltimore. Gained a greater context for Mr. Giordano’s photographic exhibit of Baltimore steelworkers as we view BMI’s exhibit, “Fire and Shadow,” which tells an inclusive story about the history of the Sparrows Point Bethlehem Steel factory, once the world’s largest producer of steel.
Another exhibit, “Collective Action,” highlights the contemporary organized labor movement in Baltimore, and displays current artifacts to tell why Baltimoreans continue to organize on behalf of workers.
There are many more exhibits to view.
Free parking onsite.
Short drive to places to eat in South Baltimore/Locust Point - or a pack lunch and eat in the shady grove at Fort McHenry (free parking and grounds admission). We can discuss lunch options once we’re there.
