This year, the winter solstice will fall on 12/21/25. And what exactly does that mean? The Earth's axis is tilted at its maximum angle away from the sun, resulting in the Northern Hemisphere receiving the least amount of sunlight. I must admit that even with the mild winter weather, I am already looking forward to spring :)

Please purchase your ticket ahead of the event to ensure that you have a spot. I am unfamiliar with the area, and parking situation, etc., so I've built in a little extra time for us to meet ahead of time. They are requesting that we arrive by 6:45 pm.

About the show:
Discover the magic of the Centennial Celebration--Winter Solstice, the celestial event that brings about the shorter days and longer shadows of winter. Explore the solstices, equinoxes, and the beautiful astronomical circumstances that cause them. We'll also take a moment to marvel at the breathtaking constellations and planets that grace the night sky of Idaho this month.

About Whittenberger:
The Planetarium has 41 fixed seats with two spaces for wheelchairs. The projector sits under a 24-foot dome. The projector can show northern and limited southern constellations, all planets visible to the unaided eye, the sun, moon, a few deep space objects, and both nightly and annual motions of all of the above. The sky can be viewed from different locations and times on Earth with several specialized projectors helpful in demonstrating daily and seasonal changes visible in the night sky. A digital overlay and a large collection of images add to the educational opportunities and experiences offered during shows.
