August Discussion

Good afternoon,

I hope you are enjoying A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court.  It's been a great read, and I'm anxious to see where the discussion goes.  Mark Twain wrote a huge amount of literature, which most of us have been exposed to at one point or another.  If you're interested in learning more about Twain's life and background, besides his autobiography, and the multiple biographies that have been written about him, there is also a great American Stories special on his life available on Hulu.

I've received multiple questions about the book selection.  We always make our selection for the next month at the end of our discussion.  We have an ongoing list, made up of recommendations from members.  If you have recommendations, please come and join in the discussion and make your suggestion.

September will be a non-fiction selection.  Below is our non-fiction list (with hopefully more to be added soon by your suggestions!):

The Imperial Cruise, by James Bradley

Dirt, The Ecstatic Skin of the Earth, by William Bryant Logan

The Age of Wonder, How the Romantic Generation Discovered the Beauty and Terror of Science, by Richard Holmes

Longitude, the True Story of a Scientific Genius who Solved the Greatest Scientific Problem of his Time, by Dava Sobol

Hope to see you soon!

Marsha
