Software Engineer – Aviation

Description: The Weather Channel is seeking a Software Engineer to help develop a real-time flight decision support and post operation analysis solution for the commercial aviation market. You will be part of a fun, fast-paced and highly collaborative product development team leveraging Agile methodologies to deliver new functionality in incremental iterations. You will work closely with product management and our customers to understand and refine market requirements. You will be hands-on, implementing alongside other developers while championing a clean, pragmatic design for the entire system. You will effect change on the aviation organization and be a key player to the success of the company.

Responsibilities:
• Build web pages and/or work on C# / .NET client applications
• Write server side code for web applications hosted on IIS and using ASP.NET, WCF and/or MVC
• Prepare, collaborate on, and review Software Engineering designs and implementations
• Contribute to and review Product Marketing and Product Design product requirements
• Contribute to and review QA test strategy and plans.
• Evaluate industry standards, best practices, and other techniques for application in WSI products.
• Apply communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills to drive team results.

Qualifications:
• 1-3 years’ experience commercial software development.
• BS/MS in Computer Science or other technical degree.

Skills/Competencies Required:
• Experience developing client-server applications using object oriented techniques
• Understanding of HTML, XHTML, CSS, and developing for cross-platform compatibility
• Excellent communication skills (verbal, written, wiki, and white-boarding)
• Problem Solver: Solves problems quickly and thoroughly; effectively looks for support when necessary; volunteers to tackle the appropriate hard problems; is tenacious and innovative
• Takes complete ownership of assigned tasks, judges themselves by the success of the effort; extends ownership beyond their assigned tasks and goes the extra mile to assure project success
• Is a team player; is quick to resolve issues that impact clients whatever their source

Additional Skills/Competencies Desired:
• Interest in learning or background in meteorology and/or aviation
• JQuery / MVC a plus
• Native app development on at least one major platform (iOS, Android, Windows Phone) a plus
• Interactive 3D mapping and/or graphics intense applications using OpenGL
• Experience with Agile software development methodology
