Boston Japanese & English Language Club Pages

Welcome to Boston Japanese and English Language Club!

We connect language learners and people interested in Japanese culture with native speakers of Japanese or English. Practice speaking, find out about cultures, styles, history, current events, and meet new friends!

People who want to speak (or hear) Japanese or English can join. It is open to all ages, and all levels of skill. Generally speaking, all people are welcome to join this club, however it is expected that everyone will abide by the following basic guidelines:

Individuals must respect one another.
Let's keep a positive attitude about things!
Let's have a really great time!

Unlike a classroom setting, we meet in a casual environment such as a restaurant or other public place, and people just form natural conversations or practice groups. And if you are looking for a language exchange partner, you are likely to find one here.

We are not a dating club. While people have formed relationships through this club,we will not tolerate anyone who makes other members uncomfortable or behaves inappropriately. An example of inappropriate behavior is emailing members you have not met in person and suggesting private meetings, or pestering people to friend you on Facebook. We have banned people in the past for this type of conduct.

Please fill in your application/profile as much as possible. Because we want to know something about you. Write up your introduction in several lines. As for language skill set, you could say "English - Native, Japanese - Beginner" or vice versa.

We charge a $5.00 membership fee to cover the costs of the Meetup site, which is currently $180 a year. However, you need not pay right away - please take advantage of your 90-day free trial to decide whether you wish to be a part of this club. If we meet at a restaurant, people pay individually at the end except for Chinatown dinners where we generally eat family style and divide the cost evenly (except for alcohol which is always paid individually). Some venues, such as a karaoke club, would have an equally shared cost.
