  • Good News Everyone!

I've wanted to read something more from Lois McMaster Bujold for a while now and I keep hearing great things about her Vorkosigan series. So we will read a few books from that! I'm posting this very early to give people time to read the two books and novella selected for this meetup. The books are in the Young Miles Omnibus, and consist of The Warrior's Apprentice, The Mountains of Mourning, and The Vor Game. It is recommended, but not required, that you read Shards of Honor and Barrayar first as they set up some items in the Young Miles series. See links below for more information about the book.

We will be meeting at Comicazi on Highland Ave in Davis Square. There is metered parking all along Highland as well as a public metered lot on Highland near the Rite Aid (and an unmetered lot behind the Rite Aid), Day Street near Redbones, and across the street from Orleans restaurant on Holland. There is also T access and bus connections through Davis Square T station.

You can find the books by Lois McMaster Bujold on Amazon, B&N, Porter Square Books, or through the Minuteman Library system. Learn about them on Goodreads.

Just restarted Cordellia's Honor (omnibus of Shards of Honor & Barrayar) today, so I should be up to date in time for the meetup.

AAAAAAAHHHHHH.... I've been so looking forward to this discussion, and then it turns out that my wife's company put their xmas party that same evening! (Really, who puts their holiday party on a *Thursday* night?) So I'm not going to be able to join you for this discussion. :-( *heartbroken*

:-/ Sorry to hear you won't be able to attend. If you decide to leave that party early, feel free to bring your wife around to talk about Vorkosigans!

I've read most of the Vorkosigan Saga years ago but I haven't read any of the books recently. I just finished the Warrior's Apprentice. I'd forgotten how good the Vorkosigan Saga really is. I borrowed a copy of Young Miles from the library and it has Lois McMaster Bujold's signature on the front page. I'm tempted to keep it and pay the library fine for a lost book.

I just looked at Lois McMaster Bujolds' Wikipedia page and her Wikipedia bibliography page. I didn't know that she's won several Hugo, Nebula and Locus awards. She's also won aJohn W. Campbell Award. I'm looking forward to reading The Mountains of Mourning and The Vor Game.

Excellent! This will be a good excuse to read some of the series that my friends have recommended for years. Maybe there will be time to get in some Cordelia too.

Cordelia books are definitely worth reading. Both because Cordelia is AWESOME and because they set up a lot of the backplot for Miles. Also, in the second Cordelia book, you can see where Bujold set them aside and then later picked them up to finish. There's a clear jump in her writing style.

I love the series, but I have no idea what my schedule will be that far in the future. Hopefully, you'll send out a reminder closer to the date.

Also, you might want to take a look at:
