I agree with Paul. Pants coming off is about the only advantage to face to face interaction. : P

I’m translating his remark, of course. lol

Social restrictions are no more corrupting than a lack of social restrictions. Conversations work on many levels. Content is just part. Relationships is another significant part. People have different levels of interest in each level.

In a physical gathering, we can choose to sit near someone compatible with our communication type. In an email distribution list, we are pushed emails from both people we would enjoy talking to and those who might be off-putting to us. It is important to not take any one email that serious or that representative. Any group will have all types, whether we notice them due to our gravitating toward people who are compatible to us.

Oh, no, I agree. I just think there’s some airs that can only be let out under a veil of ignorance, so to say. Otherwise, I think the dialogue –might- but corrupted by social restrictions. Just my opinion/suggestion.

I was referring to intelligent adults having conversations.  What you just described sounds like drunken brawls or Thanksgiving.  Anyway, it's my opinion/ suggestion.

I don’t know if I agree, sometimes. Is face to face conversation always better? Is it really better for open dialogue to have people inhibited or confined by social graces. I mean, yea, the conversation can spiral down rather fast – but at least it’s not cowering the corner nodding its head only because it’s afraid to get punched.

I wouldn't recommend conversations in bars either.

I wasn't raised on computers, but I've noticed people (myself included) become overly defensive (and sometimes offensive) when hiding behind a screen.

I was just noticing the numerous back and forth emails filling up my inbox and realized I prefer quality over quantity.  (That's not meant to be a snooty comment . . .I just like the company of people, as well as effective conversations.)

At least email messages can reach multiple people. Conversations in bars
are limited to the very adjacentmost.
