Re: [bostonatheists] Cowards!!

I planned to reply to remarks yesterday that denigrated the value of interfaith cooperation because of the moral superiority of atheists over "the faithful." One reason because the latter based theirs on ancient "proclamations" from "non-existent sky-daddies."

The danger is not in ancient texts, but in ancient fears of "the other," intolerance, hatred, the unwillingness to change and the choices we make in life.

The Boston Marathon terrorist bombing and its aftermath, while we cannot change what has happened, we can choose how we respond to it. There will be dark voices, including those who do not believe in sky-daddies, who will whip up the ancient prejudices of "the other," including against Islam, Muslims and immigrants.

We have heard these dark voices in our own midst. The hope is that those voices have not remained unchallenged.

Like those whose remarks today have saddened me, I can have those same fears, self-righteousness and base reactions. But I don't have to give in to them.

Undoubtedly just as after 9/11 and the killing of American diplomats in Benghazi, Libya, there will be knee-jerk and bigoted voices that will scapegoat Islam and Muslims, and atheists will be among them.

As some atheists debate interfaith work, we who believe in it don't have to wait to be invited to the table or demand a mike at the podium. If there is an anti-Muslim or ant-immigrant backlash, we can reach out and give support in both action and statements to organizations, friends and neighbors that are the targets of such hate.

It was just a matter of time before the marathon was bombed. These insects think that if they make the news, people will like them, or follow them in what they are doing.

If I wanted to kill myself and I believed in Islam, and Mohammed/Muhammed or however you care to spell it, then I would decide which group of people were infidels, so that I could strap a bomb to myself, and take out as many of them as I could. Then I would be assured 7 virgins in the afterlife, and martyrdom on earth. These people are fucking cockroaches. My only wish is that the united states would enact an "Eye for an Eye" policy.
