Re: [bostonatheists] A question for tomorrow's rally

I spent a decade in public school, literally one town over from Acton, where this case was spawned.  As an atheist since middle school, I spent at least 7 years reciting the pledge and omitting "under god" from my recitation.  Every day, I worried that someone would notice I didn't say it and ask me about it.  I worried that I'd be 'outed' and have to defend myself against my peers and likely my teachers.  The notion that we default to a theistic society and I needed to go through this 182 times per year, for at least 7 years is akin to national-level peer-pressure.

Dear BAers:

I trust that you know about tomorrow's demonstration contesting the use of the Pledge of Allegiance in Massachusetts public schools, given the presence of the divisive "under God" clause. If not, go to this link and read all about it, and why you should be there tomorrow morning:

We're preparing a handout flyer to be distributed to press and passersby, which lays out the secular case for supporting the case against the Pledge as it stands. I'd like to ask members of the mailing list to contribute their own perspective to this sheet, by replying with an answer to this question:

What is your view of the discriminatory daily exercise of the Pledge of Allegiance (with "under God" clause) in Massachusetts public schoolrooms?

I'll include as large a selection of your responses as I can in our materials for the public. If you wish to be identified by name, please indicate that's the case; otherwise, just let me know your age, city of residence, and if you like, your profession and number of children.

All best,
