I wanted to write you all this note as we close down 2010 as an incredible year of growth for Boston PHP.

Looking back:
We almost cannot believe it! In this year alone we went from 543 members to over 1430! That's nearly 270 percent growth in just one year! Probably more impressive is that our member attendance went from 26 to a whopping 380 members attending our last event. We are now the largest and most active tech community on the east coast.

This year we held a total of 20 events all focused on what you asked for. Everything from Beginners PHP Training, learning to build a Facebook app with PHP, to performing Usability testing. When it comes to engaging topics on web development that are relavent to you - we've got you covered.

I must thank all of the presenters that gave us great presentations this year. If not for them, none of this would be possible. Many might not even realize, but most of our presenters are actually Boston PHP members that attend our events. Having members sharing their knowledge and experience with the community is the key to a strong and vibrant community. I also want to thank our sponsors who help us keep Boston PHP free and open to the public.

Looking forward:
Next year will be an even bigger year for us as we have so many new things in store for you. There are a few huge events we cannot talk about just yet, but I can assure you that you won't want to miss them. Stay tuned!

This is what we have planned so far for 2011:
  • PHP Self Study group (PHP Percolate!)
  • PHP Framework Bake-Off
  • Beginners PHP Training
  • jQuery Mobile: How to develop mobile apps.
  • Learn about Aptana Studio 3 IDE
  • Web Performance, Scalability, and Testing techniques
  • Introducing the Lithium PHP Framework
  • Learn SEO (Search Engine Optimization)
  • Learn Twitter API Programming
  • jQuery Training
  • Usability Testing Night
  • And much more...

I would like to recognize your organizers, Matt Murphy, Ronald Verge, Andrew Drane, Bobby Cahill, Boz Hogan, and Gene Babon. These guys are passionate about PHP, Open Source technology, and all things Web Development. They are working hard behind the scenes to make Boston PHP possible. You couldn't ask for a better team here.

So from from all of us at Boston PHP, I'd like to personally thank you for a great year. Please help us spread the word on Facebook and Twitter, and by inviting your friends to Boston PHP. We look forward to seeing you at our events in 2011.

Happy Holidays,

Michael Bourque
