Hello all,
I'm sure some of you have already heard about this interesting volunteer monitoring project. I received the following info from Sean Kluesner with the Jefferson County Open Space. If you have any interest in the project, they sure would appreciate your help!

Jefferson County Open Space (JCOS) has partnered with Project BudBurst through their BudBurst in the Parks program. Participants in the program help monitor and record the various life cycle stages of plants (phenophases) on Open Space properties. These observations help further our understanding of how plants respond to changing climates and environments as well as aid in local natural resource management of the parks. 2013 Plant Monitoring List: Big bluestem, Blue grama, Chokecherry, Colorado blue columbine, Dalmatian toadflax, Darkthroat shootingstar, Dotted gayfeather, Ponderosa pine, Pasqueflower, Showy prairie gentian
Volunteer Requirements:
• Ability to correctly identify the species of interest;
• Ability to visit a monitoring plot at least twice a week for the duration of the plant’s growing season (from several weeks to several months depending on the species);
• Ability to work independently in the field;
• Be a detail-oriented, consistent data collector;
• Attend training on March 2, 2013 from 9am-12pm at the Jefferson County Open Space building.

To learn more about this volunteer opportunity, please attend the JCOS Volunteer Recruitment Open House on February 23, 2013 from 10am-2pm at the Lookout Mountain Nature Center. If you cannot attend the open house please contact a program coordinator: Lisa Kluesner, lkluesne@jeffco.us, Sean Kluesner, skluesne@jeffco.us, or by phone (303) 271-5927.
